Job Summary
The main function of a research engineer is to research and investigate the design, functionality and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes. A typical research engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings, and read and interpret blueprints.
Position Contributions to Work Group
The e-Powertrain (ePt) Validation Planning Support Engineer works closely with the ePt system design team to understand the potential technical risks for the specific ePt configuration being evaluated.
This role tackles various tasks: collecting the risks identified in DFMEAs, sorting those risks from highest to lowest RPN, and helping to identify virtual simulation or physical test activities (bench, lab, or full machine) to optimally mitigate those risks between cost and time.
Deliverables include gathering system readiness summaries from component & sub‑system teams, creating validation one‑pager status slides for NPI Gateway reviews, managing issue lists for various ePt programs, forecasting defects per unit, and creating proactive reliability curves to predict ePt system performance & durability throughout its life.
Education & Experience Required
8–10 years of real‑world experience; academic projects do not count as experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
Additional Technical Skills
Hands‑on test experience testing fuel systems, engines, full machines or vehicles.
Hands‑on test experience testing electric drivetrain systems.
