Commissioning Engineer- Communication and Network (US) role at Siemens Energy. Location: Raleigh, NC. Worldwide travel up to 80% may be required. What You’ll Do
In our HVDC Communication Team, we test and verify network infrastructures, communication interfaces, as well as HMI concepts of HVDC projects in our test center. During the commissioning of HVDC systems worldwide, we ensure flawless functionality and quality. Our diverse and multinational teams work closely with project management, system and component engineering to provide custom solutions based on the latest innovations in HVDC technology. Responsibilities
You are responsible for technically flawless, on-time and economical handling of the commissioning of HVDC systems on our construction sites (worldwide), especially for data networks and individual components of network communication SCADA level. Responsible for commissioning, support, and control of the predominantly TCP/IP-based network infrastructure, HMI concept, and their purpose-specific adaptation. Responsible for time synchronization as well as the local and remote signal converter and the interface to all other involved signal suppliers. Support for other commissioning components as well as customers and external partners in troubleshooting and testing communication interfaces. Support for IBS management in quality, risk, and claim management. Participation in improvement programs (including Lean, reviews, and lessons learned). What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Preferably in electrical engineering, energy technology or comparable education/qualification. 3+ years' experience in network administration (switches, routers, etc.), basic HMI, and PC administration (hardware and virtualization). Candidates with more experience may be considered for a higher level. Experience within a substation site and a basic understanding of substation site safety. OHSHA 10 is required; OSHA 30 preferred. NFPA 70E (supplemental training) preferred. Basic knowledge of network protocols (including TCP/IP, RADIUS) as well as network security and monitoring. Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and precisely. Handling of circuit diagrams and electrical systems. Willingness for worldwide business trips and long-term assignments on construction sites in Germany and abroad, as well as optional assignments on offshore platforms. Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
