Overview
The core purpose of a Maintenance Planner/Scheduler (MPS) is to transition a maintenance organization from a reactive, "fix-it-when-it-breaks" model to a proactive, "prevent-it-from-breaking" one. The MPS serves as the logistical hub for all maintenance activities, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and at the optimal time in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO13485 - cGMP environments, while maintaining all required records for regulatory compliance. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Work Order Management
Prioritization and Planning: Review incoming maintenance requests to determine validity, priority, required resources, scope of work, detailed work plans, and estimated labor hours.
Resource Coordination: Ensure that parts, tools, equipment, and skilled labor are available before a job begins, coordinating closely with storeroom, procurement, and technicians (internal & external).
Scheduling and Coordination
Developing Schedules: Create detailed short- and long-term maintenance schedules for preventive and corrective maintenance, balancing equipment reliability with production needs.
Stakeholder Communication: Act as the main point of contact between the maintenance team and other departments (especially production) to identify optimal maintenance windows and minimize downtime.
Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
Program Development: Design and implement preventive maintenance (PM) programs based on equipment history, manufacturer recommendations, and data analysis.
Optimization: Analyze CMMS data to identify trends and opportunities to improve maintenance strategies, moving from reactive to proactive maintenance.
Documentation and Reporting
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate maintenance history, procedures, manuals, and related documentation within the CMMS.
Performance Tracking: Generate reports on KPIs such as work order backlog, schedule compliance, and equipment uptime to measure performance and drive continuous improvement.
Continuous Improvement
Process Analysis: Review completed work orders and technician feedback to refine plans, reduce inefficiencies, and improve maintenance procedures.
Problem-Solving: Identify and address delays or bottlenecks in the maintenance workflow, such as material shortages or scheduling conflicts, to maintain cost-effective operations.
Safety and Compliance
Commit to safe, responsible work practices to maintain an injury-free workplace.
Comply with all job-related safety and training requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Authorities Expenditure Authorization in accordance with company guidelines.
Authorized to approve work permits per applicable procedures; if authorized, maintain required refresher training.
Projects or Special Assignments Operational Excellence Roles
SAP Roles (as required)
Education and Experience BS/BA degree in a related technical field with 4 years' experience in industrial maintenance/construction or planning and scheduling; OR associate's degree with 6 years' experience; OR 8 years' experience in industrial maintenance/construction.
Balanced ability to manage competing demands and adapt to unplanned events while maintaining information management and analysis capabilities.
Strong communication and influence skills to collaborate with technicians, supervisors, and production managers.
Technical knowledge of equipment, maintenance procedures, and CMMS usage.
Hands-on maintenance foundation.
Physical/Environmental Demands Typically requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, and listening for extended periods.
Occasional bending, stooping, climbing ladders/stairs; may lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
Manufacturing environment with varying noise levels; travel or site visits as needed; use of PPE (safety glasses, shoes, hearing protection, hard hat, respiratory protection).
Possible exposure to outside weather conditions and extreme heat/humidity.
