Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Material Flow Automation
Tesla Motors, Inc., Austin, Texas, us, 78716
Overview
Tesla is seeking a motivated manufacturing engineer to lead the design and implementation of automated material handling systems for new and existing factories and programs. This position will be based at Gigafactory Texas near Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding, fast-paced environment and work as part of a smart, agile, and highly motivated team to accomplish ambitious projects within Tesla. Manufacturing Engineers on the Material Flow Engineering team (MFE) are responsible for developing solutions for the efficient and reliable flow of material to Tesla manufacturing lines. As a manufacturing engineer you are responsible for managing and owning automated material handling projects from cradle to grave, including concept, design, install, commissioning, ramp, handover to Production, and continuous improvement of automated material handling equipment such as automated storage systems (ASRS), final assembly conveyance (car bodies, batteries, drive units), automated lifts, and material handling robot cells. Senior Manufacturing Engineers provide mentorship and guidance to other engineers and stakeholders. The role ensures MFE system designs meet Tesla goals and objectives, including project management functions such as timelines, budgets, and coordination with vendors and other manufacturing teams. Drive material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems. Develop analytical models to establish design criteria and overall system performance criteria. Investigate and research advanced technologies to optimize material handling equipment and systems. Concept development, detailed engineering design, and collaboration with system build and integration teams. Develop RFQs, technical equipment specifications, procedures, and proper documentation. What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. 5+ years of practical automated material handling and process equipment design experience in AS/RS, electric monorail systems, conveyance, mobile robotics (AGVs or AMRs), and robotic material handling.
