Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and licensed
Substation Engineering Manager
to lead our substation engineering team in delivering high-quality, safe, and cost-effective substation design and engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of substation systems, strong leadership skills, and proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams. This role plays a key part in shaping the future of our power delivery infrastructure.
Base pay range $170,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of substation engineers and designers to deliver complete design packages for transmission and distribution substation projects (up to 500kV).
Oversee all phases of substation engineering including physical design, protection and control, SCADA, grounding, lightning protection, and site layout.
Ensure compliance with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, NERC, etc.) and client specifications.
Review and approve engineering deliverables, calculations, and drawing packages.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to staff engineers and junior designers.
Coordinate with internal departments (civil, structural, project management, etc.) and external stakeholders including utilities, contractors, and equipment vendors.
Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
Lead quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) efforts for substation projects.
Participate in proposal development, cost estimation, and client presentations.
Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in substation engineering and power systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
required (must be current and in good standing).
Minimum 10 years of experience
in substation engineering, including leadership or supervisory roles.
Strong knowledge of substation design standards, protection and control systems, grounding, and high-voltage equipment.
Experience managing substation projects from concept through commissioning.
Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, ASPEN, or similar tools.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
