CDM Smith is seeking a candidate to inspect and monitor construction activities at field site locations in Atlanta, GA. Inspection activities are primarily routine and standardized and work under direct supervision from higher level inspectors and engineers. The position requires knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; knowledge of geometry and basic mathematics; ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications; and good communication skills. Our Transportation Construction, Engineering and Inspection group assists federal, public, private, and international organizations by offering construction services for transportation systems. We provide value-added program management, design-build expertise, sustainability, and innovative solutions for environmental and infrastructure challenges. Primary Responsibilities
Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision. Determine the acceptability of day-to-day work performed by the contractor. Review and recommend acceptance or rejection of daily reports, inspect the contractor’s quality control procedures and material testing, and verify procedures align with the approved Quality Control Plan and established procedures. Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract and measure quantities of materials placed. May be required to perform sampling and/or in-place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt pavement. Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent. Certifications from a State Highway Agency or national entity (e.g., ACI or NICET) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction. Valid driver’s license. 2 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency contingent on duties and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Driver's License Requirements

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Basic arithmetic and Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone, or related applications and programs.
