Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Loma Linda, California, United States, 92354
Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Department of Otolaryngology, is currently seeking a fellow in Advanced Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction. This is a one-year operative program with broad exposure; two-year commitments are also considered based on the fellow's future ambitions and research interests. Mission electives are strongly encouraged.
Currently, 8 full-time fellowship-trained Head & Neck surgical oncologists practice at Loma Linda, with 5 performing microvascular reconstructions. Two additional Head & Neck oncologic surgeons practice at our VA facility. The team also includes two endoscopic skull base surgeons, three facial plastic/reconstructive surgeons, and three laryngologists, enhancing the fellow's experience. Advanced cases covered by the fellow include major head and neck ablative surgeries, microvascular reconstructions, TOLMS/TORS, endoscopic skull base surgery, open/craniofacial surgery, advanced trauma, and skin cancer reconstructions. A blended ablative and reconstructive experience is crucial, with the case mix tailored to the fellow's preferences. The fellowship also involves participation in thyroid/parathyroid surgeries, including minimally invasive techniques, re-operative surgeries, and procedures for non-localizing disease.
The fellow collaborates with Loma Linda University assisting faculty with cases. Case selection is fellow-directed with limited mentor oversight to ensure a balanced, comprehensive experience. Intraoperative resident teaching and limited research are expected. The fellow may also assist at the VA or county hospital if interested in specific cases.
This is a surgical fellowship with no call or clinic responsibilities, focusing solely on operative experience. A California Medical License is required.
