Duties, Responsibilities & Other
Oversee the successful execution of engineering projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints. Drive project success and client satisfaction, working with the Project Manager for project execution. Prepare, design and review engineering construction plans, drawings, and specifications for water resources projects (e.g., drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, flood mitigation, stabilization, restoration). Develop hydrologic and hydraulic studies for floodplain analysis, drainage improvements, climate resiliency, dam breach analysis, stabilization, and restoration. Conduct site visits and assessments to gather information and ensure project compliance with standards and regulations. Coordinate with internal and external teams to obtain information, permits, approvals, and clearances for project execution. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support staff; perform quality control on delegated work. Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in engineering techniques and technologies. Communicate and collaborate with clients, team members, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives. Use strong organizational and scheduling skills to track project progress and deliverables, providing regular updates to stakeholders. Foster and maintain positive client relationships to support satisfaction and future collaboration. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license is required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering or related field. Experience with ArcGIS and HEC-RAS preferred. Experience with MicroStation and/or Civil 3D AutoCAD preferred. Experience with InRoads and/or OpenRoads preferred. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing plans, reports, and documentation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences. Excellent organizational abilities and ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid office/remote environment or independently with minimal supervision. Project Management And Leadership
Plan, develop, coordinate and direct projects or engineering programs. Design and prepare deliverables for multiple projects, ensuring timely and on-budget completion. Supervise subordinate supervisors or team leaders; conduct research and apply advanced concepts as needed. Assist in proposals, negotiations, and presentations; collaborate with internal departments for client relationships. Manage work routines and assign tasks; attend project team meetings; provide task performance reports; coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants. Provide technical oversight and serve as task manager on select projects. Training, Development, And Compliance
Mentor and train staff; comply with KCI policies and procedures. Ensure projects comply with ISO standards; conduct performance appraisals where applicable. Develop professional relationships through industry involvement. Identify and assist in attracting talent to KCI. Financial Management And Reporting
Complete tasks on time and within budget while meeting project scope. Operate within budget parameters and work with Project Manager to actively manage project budgets. Aim to achieve or exceed budgeted utilization targets. Project Execution And Technical Oversight
Conduct site visits and data gathering; prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. Review and approve shop drawings; compare field data to base plan; prepare preliminary concept designs. Read and interpret technical documents; ensure compliance with essential duties and responsibilities. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (AEC Industry); minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring engineering projects; track record of successful project delivery. Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills; ability to interact with clients and team members. Knowledge of industry standards in construction management, QA, and safety protocols; strong problem-solving skills. Education And/or Work Experience Preferred
Master’s Degree Certificates, Licenses, And/or Registrations Required
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). Pre-employment drug screening; background and motor vehicle checks may be required. Seniority level
