Overview

The National Geographic Society is seeking an Overnight Mechanic, Building Maintenance to maintain operational integrity of a complex facility on the overnight shift. The role reports to the Engineer, Operating Shift Lead and requires reporting to and remaining at work during emergencies and early closings. Occasional overtime may be required to support operational needs. Responsibilities

Perform Preventative and Corrective Maintenance (80% of time): conduct regular PMs and necessary repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety equipment; review chiller/boiler logs; change filters; inspect motors; replace belts as needed. Respond to Service Requests (10%): promptly address unscheduled maintenance, troubleshoot systems, handle temperature complaints, resolve minor plumbing issues, and repair general building and kitchen equipment. Administrative and Documentation Duties (5%): accurately document completed work in CMMS; read and apply technical information from manuals and online resources. System Integrity and Upkeep (5%): assist with projects including installation of new equipment, air balancing, and troubleshooting/repair of complex systems like VAV boxes; maintain organization and cleanliness of mechanical rooms and shop areas. Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; trade school certification or relevant vocational training in HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing strongly preferred. Experience: Two years of maintenance/repair experience on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a commercial, institutional, or Class A office building environment preferred. Knowledge and Skills: basic maintenance and troubleshooting of commercial HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems; working knowledge of basic electrical tasks; proficiency with hand and power tools; strong teamwork and communication skills. Certifications/Licenses: No mandatory licenses; candidates with a 6th Class Operating Engineer's License are encouraged to apply; 24 hours of continuing education per year in engineering/maintenance fields required. Compensation and Benefits

Salary:

The hourly pay for this position is $23.50/hr.
