Job Description Budget Title: Assistant Director of College Housing (SL-3)
Salary: $65,000
This 12-month, live-off position supports the Department of Residential Life through new staffing models and evolving programs. The Assistant Director (AD) provides professional leadership and direction to live-in staff and student staff, and acts as an extension of the Central office. The AD may oversee a specific functional area such as staff selection and training, staff development, residential community traditions, student leadership development, and independent living resources.
Residential Life serves 7,600+ residents through six residential colleges and delivers a living-learning experience aligned with the university’s academic mission. We value diversity and seek staff who can serve as role models for a widely diverse student population.
Residential Life collaborates with campus partners to provide specialized services to residential students.
Responsibilities
Leadership : Provides departmental direction through a department-wide committee/functional area and may represent Residential Life on university committees. Serves as a leader and role model, engaging with students to foster community traditions.
Community Building and Diversity : Promotes an inclusive community, interacts with residents and staff during evenings/weekends, guides hall and area government advisors, and develops ways to create belonging.
Residential Education : Collaborates with the area Collegiate Professor to enhance living-learning opportunities, oversees the student experience, and implements departmental curriculum within the residential area.
Housing and Operations : Oversees operations and facilities needs for one or two areas (1,000–1,600 beds per area); manages on-site area offices, budgets, and financial resources.
Conflict and Crisis Management : Provides student support during interpersonal issues, coordinates crisis response, supports the student conduct process, and manages budgets.
Supervision : Trains, supervises, and evaluates full-time and student staff; oversees 16–62 student staff per area; may include graduate-level staff.
This is a 12-month, live-off position with an salary of $65,000 and excellent benefits.
Requirements
Master's Degree
At least two years of residential life experience
Minimum of three years of progressive supervision experience
Excellent organizational, administrative, and communication skills
Professional leadership and decision-making abilities
Preferred
Experience supervising full-time Resident Directors (or similar title)
Experience supervising professional or graduate staff
Experience implementing new initiatives
