Provide professional knowledge and expertise in the active management, administration and support of environmental, safety and occupational health programs at the company. Serve as the staff specialist in safety/health by developing and implementing procedures within the company's organization that effectively prevent accidents and health exposures in the workplace and work to assure full OSHA compliance. Manage and coordinate the Company's Safety Program and oversee adherence to all Local Town, State & Federal Environmental Regulation and Code Compliance Requirements.
Responsibilities
Responsible for compliance with all applicable local, state & federal regulations and codes governing environmental, safety & health at the company. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with these regulations and codes.
Chair/direct the monthly or quarterly Safety Committee Meeting and work in a team effort with plant supervisors and other key personnel on follow-up issues. Carry out all levels and types of safety training and retraining and corrective actions for all employees at the company.
Conduct on-site safety & health inspections, reviews, audits and assess risk potential of safety hazards regarding the company's operations and facilities. Promote hourly factory (bargaining unit) employees participation and involvement in safety & health matters. Assist supervision with the management and direction of factory team member safety champions.
Develop and implement accident investigations, data analysis and recurrence prevention programs and procedures. Use identified "safety champions" where appropriate in the carrying-out of accident investigations or other safety related programs.
Investigate and evaluate new safety equipment for use. Create and conduct training programs to increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness for all employees. Prepare and arrange health and safety exhibits and displays. Maintain all environmental, health and safety files and records for the Company.
Actively manage direct and/or indirect reports as well as outside consultants to further support all EH&S programs and policies. Work closely with Manufacturing Supervisors, Cell Managers and other support personnel regarding the implementation and follow-up of all EH&S programs and policies, including training to promote safe work practices and policy compliance.
Direct industrial hygiene, occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe workplace environment.
Respond and provide assistance to all environmental, health & safety emergency situations.
Ensure environmental compliance with local, state and federal regulations on issues pertaining to air, water, hazardous/non-hazardous waste, and related environmental concerns. Manage reporting requirements such as Annual Tier II, Form R, Wastewater, Storm Water, Hazardous Waste and Air Emissions.
Monitor and stay current on regulations related to environmental health & safety matters; manage completion of OSHA, DEEP, EPA and other regulatory compliance forms. Attend conferences and training to stay up-to-date on new methods and maintain certification/competency.
Review all company licensing, registrations and documents for regulatory environmental, health & safety compliance.
These are the general duties required to fulfill the EH&S Manager role; new duties may be added to meet changing business demands.
Qualifications
B.S. Degree in Occupational Safety, Health & Environment Technology or relevant field required. Minimum of 7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with hands-on production floor involvement and EH&S tasks.
Knowledge of State and Federal/OSHA Guidelines and Regulations.
Proven technical skills, analytical ability to isolate variables causing problems, and the ability to identify corrective actions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with interpersonal and leadership abilities. Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and virtual/online programs. Team player with colleagues and ability to foster teamwork.
Technical knowledge of and experience with environmental, health and safety issues and regulations.
CSP and CEP certifications are a plus.
Hands-on knowledge of mobile equipment (PITs and powered platform equipment) and related operating guidelines is a plus.
