Internal Search — Current faculty in Department of Large Animal Medicine or Department of Population Health (Production Medicine Service) only. The Assistant Hospital Director – Large Animal (AHD-LA) is appointed from the faculty of the Department of Large Animal Medicine or the Department of Population Health. This is a 20% EFT role that is critical in supporting the Hospital Director (HD) in the operational, financial, and strategic management of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). The AHD-LA will play a key role working primarily with the Large Animal Inpatient and Field Services Sections to ensure the delivery of high-quality veterinary care, foster a positive work environment, and advance the VTH’s missions of service, education, and support of research. The AHD-LA will report to the head of their department. The HD will provide the department head (DH) with an evaluation of the AHD-LA for service in this role annually. Additional Requirements:
Faculty member in good standing of the Department of Large Animal Medicine or the Department of Population Health (of the Production Medicine Service). Clinical or tenure track faculty must be at the level of Associate or higher. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification:
Licensed veterinarian in good standing who practices on a VTH clinical service. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies:
Enthusiasm for working for the success of the VTH and its personnel. Excellent leadership ability and written and verbal communication skills. Support Faculty and House Officers in Meeting the Missions of the VTH
Serve as a role model and mentor for engagement, professionalism, and medical excellence Provide leadership and support for section heads and VTH clinicians
Communicate and work with VTH clinicians to identify problems and opportunities and to suggest solutions and VTH responses Identify opportunities for professional development of VTH clinicians Facilitate communication and promote collaboration between clinicians and staff, and among service. Provide and facilitate the provision of tangible appreciation of the work of faculty and house officers in the VTH Help with faculty evaluations – coordinate section heads, meet with administration. Participate in the recruitment of new faculty members
Serve as VTH liaison with LAM internship and residency programs to help support our house officers
Facilitate communication with VTH and house officers, training committees, and program director. Assist with planning for house officer positions in and out of the VIRMP (with HD and DHs).

Ensure Patient Safety, Compliance, and Quality Assurance (duties shared among AHD) Strive to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and client services
Serve on the patient safety/quality control committee Coordinate case review committees Be part of the team that responds to client complaints/concerns (currently includes Front Desk, Director of Client Financial Services, HD, Section Heads, LAM Department Head, and faculty supervising cases)
Collaborate with clinical and support staff to optimize workflow, improve operational efficiencies, and address any issues affecting VTH or FS performance Work with VTH administration and personnel to develop and implement SOPs to improve patient safety, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements of USG and UGA, (including IACUC), GA State Board of Veterinary Medicine, AVMA Council on Education (COE), GA Board of Pharmacy, Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency (GDNA), DEA, and USDA Percentage Of Time:
33 Duties/Responsibilities:
Serve as a Member of the VTH Leadership Team Serve in the interest of the VTH, its personnel, clients, and patients
Assist in developing and implementing the VTH strategic plan. Work with HD and DHs on issues/concerns of or involving faculty and house officers. Understand the financial status of the VTH and work with the VTH administration to promote adaptability and financial sustainability
Participate in meetings of the VTH advisory board (Hospital Board) and when necessary, meetings of the VTH senior administration (A-Team) Serve as acting HD in the absence of the director Work with Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) in support of VTH goals Work on special projects as needed Percentage Of Time:
