Mayer Brown . The Business Development Manager will support our commercial Litigation and Advisory practices, including our Supreme Court & Appellate practice. As the Business Development Manager for our Supreme Court & Appellate practice, you’ll help drive the growth of an elite practice renowned for shaping the law at the highest levels—including landmark Supreme Court victories and industry-defining strategies. The BD&M Manager will manage day-to-day responsibilities to ensure that assignments and projects are effectively managed and in alignment with the firm’s overall strategic efforts, and that our client service is exceptional. This role is based in Mayer Brown’s Washington, D.C. office. Responsibilities
Develops and supports annual marketing and business development plans, including thought leadership platforms, communications, and client outreach, aligned with firm priorities Collaborate with BD&M department leadership and group leaders to develop annual budgets and define strategic and tactical objectives Manage day-to-day responsibilities to ensure assignments and projects are properly managed and aligned with the firm’s strategy; ensure exceptional client service Support onboarding and integration of lateral lawyers Develop and implement BD initiatives, including priority client targeting, campaigns, client seminars, roadshows, and networking events Engage in research, competitive intelligence, and data analysis; maintain CRM data for marketing planning Support matter experience reporting and profile-raising initiatives, including directory submissions and awards Coordinate BD training for lawyers Manage responses to RFPs, pitches, presentations, and related opportunities Develop and edit marketing brochures; maintain practice descriptions in shared systems Review and update lawyers’ bios and practice descriptions Provide local office support for seminars, sponsorships, events, and initiatives Supervise and train junior team members; perform other duties as needed to meet firm goals Lead or participate in budget analysis, staffing planning, and workflow improvement initiatives Demonstrate leadership, coaching, and mentorship within the BD&M team Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field
Six or more years of demonstrated success in marketing, research, management, and/or communications, in professional services (e.g., law, accounting, consulting) or equivalent corporate/academic sectors Technical Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products Performance Traits
Strong written and verbal communication; professional interaction at all levels Ability to work in a diverse team, handle demanding needs, and work under pressure with shifting priorities Self-starter with initiative; strong customer service and discretion; detail-oriented and organized Strategic thinking and problem-solving; familiarity with researching techniques and databases used in competitive intelligence Team-first orientation, meticulous and results-driven Management Accountabilities
Provide leadership and supervision to BD&M team; manage projects and workflows Oversee performance appraisals, compensation, goal setting, and coaching for direct reports Budget analysis, staffing planning, and change management to improve workflows Physical Requirements
May require occasional lifting up to 20 lbs; travel to other offices may be needed Compensation and Benefits
The typical pay scale for this position in Washington, D.C. is between $141,900 and $187,700 and in New York between $147,300 and $194,800; actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, and internal pay alignment.
