The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating students in grades K-12 with speech, language, and social communication disorders. The SLP serves as a campus consultant for staff, teachers, and parents on speech and language development, and maintains accurate clinical records for students receiving speech therapy. This role supports the mission of KIPP Texas by ensuring students with communication disorders receive appropriate interventions. Key Responsibilities
Evaluate students with speech impairments Observe students suspected of impairment Assess and determine eligibility for services Recommend in-classroom interventions prior to therapy referral Participate in ARD committee meetings to interpret assessments and discuss placement and goals Participate in ACWL committee meetings to discuss interventions and pre-referral recommendations Provide therapy in language, articulation, fluency, and voice areas Meet regularly with students and follow therapy schedules, providing make-up sessions when necessary Complete clinical records and paperwork; provide quarterly progress reports Evaluate effectiveness of therapy and monitor progress with teachers and parents Meet with ARD committees to discuss progress and modify IEPs as needed Provide informative workshops for educators and school leaders; share resources on speech and language Attend monthly Special Education meetings with the Director of Special Populations Qualifications
Education and Knowledge
Valid licensure through Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation as a Speech Language Pathologist Valid Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology Previous experience as a School-based SLP Skills
Experience collaborating with teammates Experience using diverse assessments to diagnose communication disorders Excellent interpersonal skills Professional demeanor with initiative and self-confidence Ability to work on strategy and daily details Judgment in decision-making and ability to synthesize knowledge for stakeholders Independent, self-starter with a focus on student development Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and planning skills Passion and commitment to all children Responsive with reliable follow-up with students, families, and staff Proficiency in Microsoft Office; able to use standard office equipment Reliable transportation Compensation and Benefits
Salary is based on years of experience, education level, and expertise.
