Job Description The
Senior Controls and Automation Engineer
is responsible for supporting plant leadership in achieving business and financial goals by developing, improving, and maintaining robust testing and assembly processes. This role provides technical support and troubleshooting for production test equipment and programs while mentoring and guiding other engineers and technicians.
Essential Functions
Support, service, and troubleshoot test equipment and electrical systems within the plant.
Develop test equipment specifications ensuring compliance with
electrical safe work practices
and
OSHA
requirements.
Identify potential safety hazards and provide input into remediation to ensure equipment functionality meets required specifications.
Enforce safety expectations, document and communicate hazards and unsafe conditions to promote a
zero-incident culture .
Work collaboratively with
manufacturing, MESH, quality, product design engineering, suppliers, and customers
as needed.
Perform
root cause and failure analysis , applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to ensure cost, quality, and performance targets are achieved.
Leverage advanced technology and innovation to improve the use and effectiveness of
information systems
for testing and controls.
Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to junior team members to enhance their technical and professional growth.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Science
from an accredited institution.
Minimum
3 years of test or controls engineering experience .
Hands‑on experience with multiple programming tools such as
Visual Basic/Studio, SQL, and Microsoft applications .
Proficiency with
Rockwell Software
(RS and Factory Talk),
RSLogix 5/500/5000 ,
Studio 5000 ,
FactoryTalk View ME/SE ,
VB6 ,
NI LabVIEW , and
NI TestStand .
Strong experience in
PLC and HMI programming
and
safety systems design .
Fundamental knowledge of electrical equipment at both
component and integrated system levels .
Ability to interpret and troubleshoot
electrical control, protection, instrumentation, and metering schematics and wiring diagrams .
Skilled in resolving equipment or installation issues in collaboration with multiple electrical contractors.
Experience in
electrical testing procedures and protocols .
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years
of experience in
Controls/Test Engineering .
Knowledge and practical experience with
Electrical Safe Work Practices
per
NFPA 70E .
Experience supporting an
Engineered-to-Order (ETO)
manufacturing environment.
Project management
experience using Eaton’s
PROLaunch
or similar frameworks.
Proven ability to work independently and thrive in a
team‑oriented environment .
