Position Title
Maintenance/TAR Planner & Scheduler Supervises: Department: Maintenance Works with: All plant personnel Reports to: Maintenance Manager General Responsibilities
The Maintenance Planner & Scheduler position is responsible for planning and scheduling all maintenance activities, including routine work, preventive maintenance, and major shutdowns, to ensure safety and efficiency. This involves creating detailed job plans, coordinating materials and labor, managing work orders in a CMMS [TabWare], and interfacing with production and maintenance staff to minimize downtime and maintain equipment integrity. Key duties include cost estimating job requirements, acquiring parts and equipment, and ensuring compliance with Safety/PSM programs, supporting daily maintenance and repair work, plant capital projects, scheduled outages and annual turnarounds. Specific Duties
Develop detailed plans for maintenance jobs, including scope, labor, materials, cost, and safety procedures. Coordinate and schedule preventive maintenance and repairs to minimize production impact. Lead the Daily Planning & Scheduling Meeting with all Operations, Maintenance, Contractor, and Capital supervisors and superintendents to drive work productivity and cost control. Procure necessary parts, tools, and outside contract services. Evaluate contractor performance and ensure materials are available when needed. Ensure proper additions and deletions are made to the CMMS equipment Bill of Materials [BOM] and parts by requesting specification revisions and additions for new and existing equipment and deletions for equipment no longer in service. Utilize our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders, track assets, and maintain accurate logs. Provide data analysis and reports on maintenance performance. Utilize Microsoft Project to plan, schedule, and assign employee and contractor labor across all scopes of work to develop, issue and maintain a detailed milestone schedule to endure duration and budget are managed to all outage and TAR expectations. Once the job is planned, update the work order in CMMS to reflect planned and ready to schedule status. Order parts for critical component inspections, predictive and preventative maintenance and routine maintenance tasks. Develop and issue a daily and two-week Look Ahead Schedule. Maintain and improve the Maintenance Backlog Work Management Process. Maintain and update maintenance work order backlog, removing completed jobs and scheduling “ready to schedule” jobs. Collaborate with site contractors to coordinate work or equipment needs. This includes, but is not limited to setting up crane usage, getting pickers and setting up scaffolding and insulation crews. Ensure that the maintenance schedule is executed to its fullest on nights and weekends. This includes both having operations set up equipment and maintenance completing jobs on schedule. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with plant safety and PSM (Process Safety Management) programs. Participate in root cause investigations. Complete and sustain monthly Safety Work Order Compliance. Act as a liaison between maintenance, production, reliability, engineering, capital project and other departments to ensure efficient workflows and problem resolution. Provide support for plant projects and plant-wide shutdowns. Develop a strong understanding of operator equipment set-ups in each operating area to strengthen the completeness and accuracy of all planned and scheduled work orders. Assist with defining the maintenance work priorities during days, nights and weekends, which includes planning all emergency work and ordering parts, as the plant requires. Provide planning technical expertise and assistance to maintenance technicians, operators, and engineers. Assist in developing and improving maintenance scopes of work for work orders, MOCs and maintenance procedures and work processes. Ensure all PM and ENGG Inspections are planned and scheduled and completed on time. Plan critical component inspections, predictive and preventative maintenance and routine maintenance tasks. This includes going into the field to look at the equipment to be repaired, setting up planning task lists for the job (i.e. set up scaffolding, open vessels etc.), and assemble job packages with drawings, procedures for work orders. May be required to provide off-hours support on nights and weekends for urgent maintenance issues and throughout scheduled outages and annual shutdown duration. Implement and achieve all planning and scheduling performance metrics, including schedule compliance, Gross versus Net Available Hours, Number of Break-ins, PM compliance, Backlog hours, Safety Work Order Compliance, and Maintenance Planning Accuracy. Develop key planning and scheduling performance indicators (KPI's) and lead P&S results to meet/exceed the KPI's. Sustaining a planning effectiveness level above 80% [80% of all maintenance work is planned and scheduled]. Interact with vendors to gain better understanding of equipment properties and performance to improve overall plant reliability. Recognize the four aspects of maintenance: corrective, predictive, preventive, and repairs maintenance. Strong experience with material procurement systems. A planning philosophy and dedication that recognizes the value of preventive and predictive maintenance and assures that maintenance schedules which list these activities are adhered to and defects are eliminated. Qualification Requirements
A minimum of 10 years of industrial planning and scheduling experience in highly hazardous chemical processes. Strong understanding of chemical plant equipment (pumps, vessels, instrumentation, etc.) and their maintenance. Experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a chemical plant environment. Proficiency with CMMS software and other computer programs (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project). Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills. Problem‑solving and analytical abilities. Ability to work in a safety‑sensitive environment and wear appropriate PPE. Physical ability to navigate the plant, which may involve climbing stairs and ladders, bending, and lifting. Strong analytical and process problem‑solving skills. Experience in granulated fertilizer and sulfuric acid manufacturing facilities is a plus. Demonstrated strong leadership and teamwork abilities. Self‑motivated leader that is proactive with a strong sense of urgency toward improvement. A hands‑on visible‑in‑the‑field planner that seeks engagement and involvement with operators and mechanics on a hourly and daily basis. Results driven - Routinely uses goals, objectives, and metrics to achieve results. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Working Conditions
Time will be spent in both office and field environments. The job does require frequent work and presence in all operating areas of the plant.
