Overview

Electrical Engineer (R&D Engineer 3/4) role at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Advanced Sources and Detector (ASD) Project is responsible for the fabrication, installation, and commissioning of an ~20 MeV linear induction electron accelerator, along with downstream transport and ancillary systems, to be installed at the NNSS U1a complex in support of subcritical experiments. The ASD Project is seeking engineering support to execute final design definition and facilitate technical procurements for the accelerator, DST, and related systems. This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 3 or 4 level, with additional responsibilities assigned if hired at the higher level. You will work with system technical leads, chief engineers, and a dispersed project team to support design updates and procurements, coordinate with vendors, and travel to NNSS and vendor sites as needed. The role encompasses the project lifecycle from final design (Title III) through procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and transition to operations. Responsibilities

Responsible for final assembly of your system and ensuring all documents are correct and readily available. Ensure all procedures are safe to work to, including safety analysis. Collaborate with the mechanical engineer counterpart to ensure a successful accelerator build. Serve as a key member of an integrated design team creating electrical distribution, controls, and diagnostic designs for an advanced linear accelerator system. Develop quality designs that meet requirements and national standards while meeting project cost and schedule. Oversee the creation of electrical schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable drawings using Autocad or Creo. Review electrical drawings and designs produced by other engineers and designers. Troubleshoot electrical hardware using general test equipment. Document electrical system designs with physicists, engineers, and technicians, including as-built drawings. Act as liaison among engineers, electrical safety officers, and fabricators to resolve design/manufacturing issues. Perform engineering calculations to size electrical equipment, power distribution, and cables. Create content and present engineering designs at reviews and status meetings. Provide technical support for component installation at the Integrated Test Stand and U1a complex at NNSS. For R&D Engineer 4 level: provide senior electrical engineering support per the ASD Design Engineering Procedure and lead day-to-day guidance for the electrical engineering team. What You Need
