The primary responsibilities include screening, evaluating, and providing appropriate services to students with communication disorders (articulation, voice, language, fluency) affecting educational performance. Responsibilities also include consultation with teachers and parents and participation in IEP team meetings. Physical Demands:

Attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to screen, evaluate, diagnose, and remediate communication disorders in students aged birth to twenty-one years. Ability to develop and implement goals and objectives for each student and to select and use therapeutic materials effectively with individuals and small groups. Good communication and human relations skills are essential for implementing consultative programs with teachers and parents and for effective teamwork. Strong writing and organizational skills are needed for clinical reports, IEPs, IFSPs, and maintaining student records. Education, Training, and Experience:

Masters or equivalent in speech-language pathology, with coursework and demonstrated expertise in evaluation and therapeutic techniques for communication disorders. Experience working with professionals in related disciplines and with parents is required. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and human relations skills. An alternative combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills is acceptable. Certificate/License: Speech pathologists hired after October 1, 2007, must hold a Maryland DHMH license or be eligible for a provisional license. Those hired before this date may hold MSDE certification or the Maryland DHMH license. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is desirable or CFY eligibility.
