role at
Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH)
Company Profile Oceaneering Technologies develops, manufactures, and operates customized marine systems, shipboard equipment, subsea vehicles, and engineered solutions for commercial and U.S. military vessels. The company also delivers advanced aerospace and defense solutions that support operations from underwater to the outer reaches of space.
Position Summary The Senior Electrical Designer applies creative design and computer-aided design (CAD) drafting practices to develop layout, assembly, schematics, and detail drawings of electro‑mechanical packages, electrical and electronic equipment of simple to moderate complexity. Projects support complex power and control systems for unique underwater robotic and electromechanical systems used by U.S. Navy and other U.S. Government Department of Defense customers.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with engineers and senior designers to review, correct, and update drawings, including on‑the‑fly updates for manufacturing.
Perform technical accuracy checks and complete drawing documentation.
Use SolidWorks to craft electro‑mechanical packaging of industrial control panels and enclosures based on high‑level concepts, schematics, and block diagrams.
Apply CADD practices to generate layout, assembly, and detail schematic and wiring/cabling drawings for electrical and electronic equipment using Altium Designer.
Independently select appropriate electrical and mechanical components for design, wiring, mounting, and housing of electrical chassis, cables, and related systems.
Prepare illustrations for technical documentation, proposals, and sales‑related documents.
Mentor designers and drafters, coordinate work of multiple designers on a project, and provide input to engineering leads and program managers regarding design resources and schedule estimates.
Participate in Technical Working Groups to continuously improve OTECH processes and ensure designs meet quality standards and customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
7–10 years of CAD design experience, with preference for SolidWorks Electrical Software experience.
Associate degree in drafting, design, or related technical field such as Electrical Engineering Technology.
Proficiency with Altium Designer electrical CAD schematic capture and PCB layout software.
Proficiency with Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks solid modeling software and AutoCAD for legacy design work.
Familiarity with Military Standards and ANSI 14.5 drafting standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Experience in electro‑mechanical packaging and marine (surface or underwater) industry technology, including ROVs, AUVs, and related robotic systems.
Knowledge of data communications signaling (Ethernet, USB, RS‑232/RS‑422/RS‑485, SPI, I2C, CAN, etc.) and high‑noise environments.
Knowledge of low‑medium voltage, 3‑phase power systems, fiber‑optics, and machine safety standards.
Programming languages and/or script writing, wiring/cabling design for minimizing electrical noise and EMI, and use of standard electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
Good practical technician skills (assembly, wiring, soldering, cabling).
Ability and flexibility to travel on occasion (up to 1–2 weeks at a time; may be within the U.S., outside the U.S., or offshore on a boat).
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to obtain security clearance and pass a drug test.
Additional Information This position is hybrid—remote with required commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.
Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule Base pay rate: $44.78–$60.58 per hour. Benefits may include health and wellness, mental health, retirement savings, life and disability, paid maternity and parental leave, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program.
Equal Opportunity Employer All qualified candidates will receive consideration for all positions without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or other non‑merit factors.
