Certified Respiratory Therapist, Per Diem Core Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist - Certified PRN works as part of a team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care by using a variety of testing techniques. Additionally, the incumbent assists doctors in cardiac and pulmonary research and facilitates the diagnosis of respiratory disorders. Responsibilities

Conduct tests, such as electrocardiograms, stress testing, and lung capacity tests to evaluate patients\' cardiopulmonary functions. Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist or instruct patients in the performance of breathing exercises. Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment. Read prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient’s condition. Determine requirements for treatment such as type, method, and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medication and dosages. Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears. Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach them appropriate disease management techniques such as breathing exercises, and the use of medications and respiratory equipment. Monitor patients’ physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs and blood chemistry changes, and consult with physicians if adverse reactions occur. Maintain charts that contain patients\' pertinent identification and therapy information. Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. Supervise, teach, and train students, respiratory therapy technicians, and assistants. Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets. Core Qualifications

Graduate from a two (2) year program in Respiratory Therapy is required. Current and Valid State of Florida Respiratory Therapist license is required. Current and Valid BLS/CPR, PALS and ACLS certifications are required. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Additional Information
