Job Summary The Speech Therapist provides high‑quality, patient‑centered care by creating and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. The role encompasses comprehensive patient assessments, treatment goal establishment, and education of patients, families, students, and colleagues.
Responsibilities
Conduct subjective assessments of patients’ speech‑language abilities during spontaneous conversation
Administer objective tests to assess communication assets and liabilities
Perform Modified Barium Swallow studies and/or Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow in a timely manner
Compare results to standardized data to evaluate communicative function
Structure and implement individualized patient programs to improve communication abilities
Evaluate patients regularly during treatment, adjusting programs as needed to maximize progress
Document progress in the patient’s chart, including notes, charges, discharge notes, and patient communication
Provide ongoing education to patients and families as needed
Collaborate effectively with all members of the rehabilitation team
Consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre‑screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate patient placement
Qualifications
Basic Cardiac Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date
ASHA certification preferred
Certified Clinical Competence in Speech‑Language Pathology (CCC‑SLP) obtained within 1 year of employment start date
Licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist in the state of Texas
Master’s degree from an accredited speech pathology program
Minimum of 1 year of direct patient rehabilitation experience
Minimum of 1 year of adult acute‑care experience
Ability to work weekdays with occasional weekend and holiday shifts
