Responsibilities

Conduct subjective assessment of assigned patient’s speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation.

Administer objective tests to assess patient’s communication assets and liabilities.

Perform Modified Barium Swallow studies and/or conduct Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow effectively and in a timely manner.

Compare results to standardized data to evaluate communicative function.

Structure and implement individualized patient program to improve communication abilities.

Evaluate patient regularly during treatment and adjust program as needed to maximize patient progress.

Document progress in patient’s chart and complete notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication.

Provide ongoing education to patient and family as needed.

Collaborate effectively with all members of the rehabilitation team.

Consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre‑screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential patients.

Qualifications

Basic Cardiac Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

ASHA certification a plus.

Certified Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP) obtained within 1 year of employment start date.

Licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist in the state of Texas.

Master’s degree from an accredited speech pathology program required.

A minimum of 1 year experience in direct patient rehab required.

A minimum of 1 year experience in Adult acute care required.

Must be able to work 2 shifts per 4‑week rotation; occasional weekend shifts and holiday shifts also required.
