Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives. Job Responsibilities
Patient Experience: Engage patients, assist with products and services, resolve issues promptly, and answer questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Customer service leadership: Model and share service best practices to deliver a distinctive patient experience and promote empathy and inclusivity. Patient engagement: Anticipate needs and promote services (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, disease state reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and wellness services) to expand the pharmacist role from transactional to interpersonal. Participation in community events as requested by leadership. Operations
Counsel patients on medicine usage, side effects, interactions, generic options, and privacy; refer to medical providers as needed to ensure correct usage and satisfaction. Perform pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Review, interpret, and dispense prescribed medications per regulations and company standards. Ensure regulatory compliance; establish efficient workflow; oversee scheduling, roles, and shift changes; open/close pharmacy as needed. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy with respect to controlled substances; ensure proper documentation. Collaborate with Store Manager on strategic opportunities; maintain pharmacy IT knowledge and support staff/patients with systems. Process insurance claims accurately and resolve issues with insurers and providers; participate in third-party audits. Communicate with medical providers about prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; provide immunizations, diagnostic testing, and disease state management where applicable. Coordinate with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; conduct virtual product reviews per company guidelines. Oversee maintenance and improvement of the pharmacy environment, including equipment and layout. Prepare and submit required records and reports to comply with state and federal laws. People & Performance Management
Collaborate with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, terminations, and legal compliance. Set expectations and goals, promote teamwork, monitor performance, and implement recognition programs. Identify high-potential team members and plan career progression with management. Address employee relations concerns and maintain positive morale. Training & Personal Development
Maintain required licensing/credentialing/certification for clinical services. Maintain and enhance knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare; pursue best practices. Complete education credits and training as required by the Company. Seek professional development through self-assessment and mentorship. Communications
Support Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff. Business Performance Management
Analyze performance data, manage inventory, and oversee asset protection; identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Business Planning
Develop relationships with local medical providers, promote the pharmacy business, and support health and wellness awareness in the community. Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including dispensing, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software/tech, and insurance billing. Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws. Leadership performance rating where applicable; no recent disciplinary actions for internal candidates. About Walgreens
