Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives. Job Responsibilities
Patient Experience
Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including empathy and Walgreens service traits. Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services. Promotes the shift of Walgreens pharmacy from transactional to interpersonal with services like immunizations, medication management, and wellness services. Participates in events reflecting the communities served as requested by leadership.
Operations
Counsels patients on medicine usage, side effects, interactions, generics, privacy, and OTC products. Refers to medical providers as needed to ensure correct usage and satisfaction. Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications in accordance with regulations. Ensures regulatory compliance and efficient workflow, including staff scheduling, role assignment, and shift changes. Oversees opening/closing of the pharmacy. Ensures Good Faith Dispensing elements in line with state and federal laws when filling prescriptions. Collaborates with Store Manager on strategic opportunities and maintains pharmacy IT knowledge to support staff and patients. Prevents insurance payment rejections by accurate claim processing and resolves issues with insurers and providers. Follows up with medical providers on prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; performs or coordinates diagnostic testing and wellness services. Manages maintenance of the pharmacy including repairs, equipment, and layout changes for efficiency. Prepares and submits records and reports required by laws to run the pharmacy business. Assists virtual environments with company procedures and guidelines as needed.
People & Performance Management
Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, termination, and compliance with employment laws. Sets expectations and goals, fosters teamwork, and recognizes improvements in staff performance. Oversees training and conducts performance reviews. Identifies high potential team members and supports career progression. Addresses employee relations concerns and maintains morale and positive working relationships.
Training & Personal Development
Maintains required licensing/credentialing/certification for clinical services. Maintains current knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare by reading industry publications and Walgreens communications; pursues best practices to enhance performance. Completes required training and development modules; seeks feedback and mentors for growth.
Communications
Supports Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy to pharmacy staff.
Business Performance & Planning
Analyzes performance data including financials, customer service, and inventory. Manages asset protection and identifies improvement opportunities. Develops relationships with local medical professionals to promote the pharmacy business and wellness initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing. Experience with prescription dispensing and state/federal controlled substance laws. Leadership rating on last performance review (internal candidates) and no major disciplinary actions in the last 12 months. About Walgreens
