Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist

OhioHealth is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist. The role provides accurate, precise, and timely patient test results for the diagnosis and management of human illness. The position utilizes automation, computerization, and manual methods. Responsibilities include quality control, instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The role may involve teaching and training but is not a leadership position. The laboratory handles blood, tissue, urine, spinal fluid, fecal matter, sputum, and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood-borne pathogens. Responsibilities

Perform complex analysis of body fluids and tissues, determine the reliability of analytic data before release, interpret information to guide diagnosis and treatment, and troubleshoot procedures and instruments. Apply knowledge of laboratory data, physiologic factors, medication effects, and medical treatments to assess data validity; evaluate new testing methodologies and instrumentation. Model safety and infection control practices; mentor new lab associates, medical laboratory technicians, and students. Provide professional customer service to clinicians, patients, and laboratory staff; communicate with physician offices and clinical staff; assist with service recovery when necessary. Perform quality assurance checks on procedures, reagents, stains, and equipment; document QC data and maintenance logs to ensure valid results and optimum instrument performance. Remain current in the field through continuing education; train students and new employees; maintain required competencies and mandatory educational requirements (ACE). Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (Required). ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT). Bachelor of Science degree and eligibility to sit for the ASCP Board of Registry examination or completion of required coursework for Bachelor's degree and eligibility to sit for the ASCP exam. Superior customer service skills; experience in an automated clinical laboratory. Work Details
