Essential Functions Of The Role Collects and records patient data, reports information to nursing team promptly. Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, nutritional intake, and output. Perform blood glucose monitoring using finger-stick samples, test strips, and portable meters. Perform routine urinary catheter care. Collect and transport specimens (urine, stool, sputum) as requested. Assist patients with daily activities (hygiene, dressing, eating, mobility). Change linens as needed. Answer patient call lights and requests quickly. May be assigned as a sitter for patients needing constant observation. Complete and maintain unit and patient records, files, forms, and documents (admissions, surgeries, transfers, discharges, medical records, physician call lists). Maintain a clean and organized work area. Update facility boards, pneumatic tube systems, and telemetry box reconciliation. Follow departmental policies and guidelines. Prepare reports, purchase orders, projects, memos and letters using computer programs. Greet visitors and assist as needed. Answer telephones and contact nursing staff using pagers, beepers, and cell phones. Track call light response time. Assign devices to appropriate staff. Perform area support duties as directed by nurse or physician. Run errands, pick up supplies, and transport patients. Maintain inventory, requisitions and stocks for the work area. May assist with non-medical patient care duties (e.g., making coffee, transporting patients, distributing ice, water and blankets). Clean patient bedside units and nursing areas not covered by housekeeping. Clean equipment properly and distribute based on patient needs. Attend in-services, unit meetings and conferences. Key Success Factors Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing Ability to maintain confidentiality about patients Professional, positive interaction with patients, families, and staff at all levels Qualifications Education: H.S.
