Work Week: Monday-Friday, with shared on-call responsibilities evenings, holidays, and occasionally weekends.
General Description of the Job Class
Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests, and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical procedures, including in vivo and in vitro studies; operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma, and apparatus for in vitro counting.
Calibrate and prepare radiopharmaceutical materials for patient administration; formulate radiopharmaceuticals from pre-prepared kits. Calibrate instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating malfunction. Calculate data including patient study results and radioactive decay.
Evaluate recorded images for technical quality.
Process computerized image data, including function curves and reconstructed SPECT images.
Provide care for patients of all ages during examinations, initiating life support measures if necessary.
Maintain inventory of supplies; prepare and maintain records related to radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing, and disposal activities, including brachytherapy procedures.
Provide instruction and technical guidance to radiologic technology students and other advanced imaging technicians; assist in training new employees.
Monitor the Nuclear Medicine Department for possible contamination using portable survey meters.
Perform EKG preparation and tracing.
Assist in developing and evaluating new procedures and techniques; consult with physicians on nuclear medicine procedures.
Administer thyroid therapy, ensuring correct dosage and patient safety under supervision.
Assist in quality assurance related to equipment calibration and maintenance.
Contribute to education and training of new physicians, interns, residents, and fellows.
Perform other duties incidental to the role.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Graduate or completed a program meeting eligibility for registry/certification, or currently holds required registry or certification.
Experience beyond education/certification is not required for entry-level; Level I must obtain ARRT or NMCTB certification within 18 months. Level II requires at least two years' experience; Level III requires at least four years' experience in the specialty modality.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
ARRT (N) certification and/or NMTCB certification within 18 months of employment.
BLS certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency with office computer software.
Knowledge of radiation safety and protection.
General computer skills.
IV placement and management skills.
