Department of State Hospitals - Patton Job Description And Duties
Patton State Hospital Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Limited Term, Full-Time appointment to the Beauty Shop Manager position. This vacancy exists in the Enhancement Services Department and is under the direction of the Program Director. Candidates should possess a strong enthusiasm for vocational training, professional grooming services, and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to address the rehabilitative needs of forensic psychiatric patients. They must demonstrate the capability to function effectively in a secure, structured setting with a forensic population. Excellent, clear, and respectful communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential. A solid understanding of state barbering regulations and infection control standards is required. Proficiency in managing shop operations, including scheduling, inventory control, and equipment maintenance, is necessary. There must be strict compliance with tool control and safety protocols within a secure facility. The ability to stay alert and aware of the situation in high-risk environments is crucial. Consistency in enforcing rules while fostering a therapeutic and supportive atmosphere is vital. DUTIES
Provide professional barbering services (basic haircuts, hair analysis, application of permanents relaxers) to patients in accordance with state regulations and infection control standards. Maintain barbershop scheduling, supply inventory, equipment upkeep, and sanitation. Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure safe and therapeutic engagement of patients. Uphold institutional safety protocols and procedures, including monitoring of tools and equipment. Promote hygiene education and self-care among the patient population. Inventories all beauty shop supplies daily and keep them organized and securely locked when not in use to ensure safety from contraband. Maintain security of working areas and inspect the premises. Manage shop operations by maintaining towels, cleaning cupboards, sweeping, mopping spills, and cleaning surfaces. Mixes concentrated products for appropriate use. Clean and sterilize all tools and equipment on a regular basis (daily and/or after each use). Clean up after servicing each patient. Coordinate with Housekeeping for deep cleaning as needed. Request, receive, store, and inventory supplies and recommend purchases of equipment. Submit work orders for repairs needed in the shop(s). Qualifications
