Position Summary Glenmont Job Corps is seeking a dedicated educator to join its Education and Training team. The Academic Instructor—responsible for GED, High School Diploma, and Math instruction—provides instruction and training to students in the Career Education Center, develops individual achievement plans, and collaborates with CTT Instructors to infuse applied academics into the curriculum. The instructor ensures strict confidentiality of sensitive information and the integrity of student data. NYS Teachers Certification is required.
Responsibilities
Follow all integrity guidelines and procedures; ensure no manipulation of student data.
Ensure the center meets or exceeds DOL/Company performance goals.
Provide students with academic training leading to GED/HSD completion and improved literacy and numeracy skills; provide comprehensive and individualized case management that ensures student progress, achievement and completion of the Job Corps program.
Maintain an organized and conducive classroom; hold students accountable for following the center's dress code and behavioral standards of conduct.
Produce quality work and assignments in a thorough, timely and accurate manner.
Maintain appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards.
Plan, prioritize and organize assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
Apply job knowledge to effectively complete all required responsibilities; proactively maintain the skills required to perform duties.
Mentor, monitor and model the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
Provide high-quality supervision and management for the student population; take swift and appropriate action and positively influence student behavior; show respect and courtesy to students and hold them accountable for their actions and behavior.
Provide quality programs and services for students and ensure that quality is maintained and student needs are met; pursue improvement and enhancement of programs and services.
Exchange ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner and contribute meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge. Provide quality and timely information to DOL/Company when requested.
Effectively articulate thoughts and ideas; identify problems, analyze causes and evaluate appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending actions. Follow up to ensure prompt/appropriate action is taken and that problems are in fact corrected.
Work in partnership with staff from all departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
Accept direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager to include assignments to temporarily perform job responsibilities of other departments and positions.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school required.
Master’s degree preferred.
A valid in‑state teaching certificate or waiver required.
Previous teaching or Job Corps experience preferred.
