What you'll do
Patrol assigned area on campus to observe persons and property, reducing and preventing criminal activity.
Educate the public on security practices and promote crime prevention participation.
Perform static or dynamic patrol, traffic direction, and provide crowd management during events such as concerts and athletic events.
Enforce federal, state, and University laws, rules, and regulations.
Investigate criminal and traffic/non-traffic incidents, collect and preserve evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, search records, and conduct surveillance in cooperation with the Investigative Unit.
Testify in court or university hearings regarding matters of interest to the courts or University.
Identify and respond to fire, safety, and other hazards; provide appropriate responses.
Provide emergency medical assistance or arrange care for ill or injured persons as needed.
Escort individuals making cash deposits to ensure safety during transport of large sums of money.
Assist the public by answering inquiries, giving directions, and providing general service.
Perform special protective assignments for particular persons or property.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education:
High School diploma or GED
Experience:
6-12 months of experience dealing with the public, or an equivalent combination of education, military service, or completion of a law enforcement/criminal justice program.
Requirements
Valid driver's license
Selected candidate must establish residency within a one-hour response time to the WVU police station within 90 days of contingent offer and before official hire date
Drug testing and medical management required
Pre-employment psychological evaluation required
Pre-employment physical examination and meeting WV State Police Academy height/weight requirements to attend Academy
Pre-employment polygraph test required
Pass physical agility testing (PAT): Sit-ups 28 in 1 minute; Push-ups 18 in 1 minute; Mile-and-a-half run in 14:36
After hire, must attend West Virginia Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year if not already certified
Must obtain and maintain WV law enforcement officer certification
Must be bondable on background check
Physical abilities include standing, walking, carrying and bending daily; running, jumping, and climbing weekly
