Overview
West Liberty University is a public university with a history of providing students with a comprehensive education from undergraduate to graduate degrees. Through experiential learning and personalized support, we empower students toward scholarly exploration, creative expression, and economic opportunity. The University is seeking applications for two Campus Police Officers. The Campus Police Officer establishes and maintains a safe atmosphere for the faculty, staff, students, and visitors by providing police and security services in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibilities
Performing usual duties as a University police officer: patrolling the campus, protecting and guarding property and persons from fire, theft, trespass and potential hazards, including traffic enforcement and maintaining the peace of the campus Completes police and incident reports Investigating and prosecuting all reported criminal and internal complaints within WLU jurisdiction, including attending criminal court and on-campus judicial hearings Assists in law enforcement, crime prevention, and the protection of persons and property in the community, including cooperative work with local, county, and state agencies Monitoring and enforcing traffic laws and regulations on campus and surrounding areas; enforces campus parking regulations, and issues state citations and campus tickets in accordance with laws and procedures Identifying, apprehending, arresting, and assisting in the prosecution of persons who commit crimes Checking buildings for deficiencies that make the institution vulnerable to criminal acts Directing traffic and providing crowd control during special events, such as athletic events Watching for hazards and other dangerous or damaging situations Providing police escorts as needed to protect people and property Assisting other law enforcement agencies, EMS, and Fire Department as needed Must be available for all shifts, subject to change at any time Other duties as assigned Qualifications
Certified Law Enforcement Officer in the State of West Virginia (through the Academy or another qualified school) High school diploma or GED is required Associate’s, Vocational, or Technical School degree is preferred CPR training (required within 60 days of hire) First-aid training (required within 60 days of hire) At least 6 months of law enforcement experience is required Skills & Abilities
