OneWater Marine . A Certified Seakeeper Marine Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilization systems on marine vessels. This role requires expertise in marine mechanical and electrical systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in dynamic environments such as boatyards, marinas, or onboard vessels. The technician ensures that Seakeeper systems are installed correctly, maintained to manufacturer standards, and repaired efficiently to enhance vessel stability and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Installation: Install Seakeeper stabilization systems on various types of vessels, following manufacturer specifications and blueprints. This includes mounting the unit, connecting electrical and hydraulic systems, and integrating with vessel controls.
Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and system diagnostics to ensure optimal performance of Seakeeper units. Tasks include checking fluid levels, inspecting bearings, and updating software.
Repairs: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with Seakeeper systems, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components. Replace or repair faulty parts, such as bearings, belts, or control modules, using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
Testing and Calibration: Conduct operational tests to verify system performance post-installation or repair. Calibrate systems to ensure proper functionality and compliance with Seakeeper standards.
Customer Interaction: Communicate with vessel owners, captains, or boatyard managers to explain technical issues, provide repair estimates, and offer recommendations for system maintenance or upgrades.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of installations, maintenance, and repairs, including service reports, parts used, and compliance with safety and manufacturer protocols.
Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Seakeeper certification standards, and industry safety protocols while working in marine environments.
Training and Support: Provide training to vessel operators on the proper use and basic maintenance of Seakeeper systems. Offer technical support to customers or other technicians as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. A degree or certification in marine technology, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
Certifications:
Seakeeper Factory Certification (required, typically obtained through Seakeeper’s training program). Additional certifications such as ABYC Marine Electrical, Marine Systems, or manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Yamaha, Mercury) are highly desirable. Master Technician status (three or more ABYC certifications) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a marine technician, with specific experience in stabilization systems or complex marine mechanical/electrical systems. Prior work with Seakeeper products is a significant advantage.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of marine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Proficiency with diagnostic tools, marine software, and hand/power tools. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
Soft Skills:
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and team members. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in fast-paced environments.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 100 lbs), climb ladders, and work in confined spaces. Comfortable working outdoors, on docks, or in shop environments, often in varying weather conditions. Manual dexterity and steady hands for precise mechanical work.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license (may need to travel to client locations). Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts, especially during peak boating seasons.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional certifications (e.g., ABYC, Mercury Marine, Yamaha) are a plus.
Experience with advanced marine electronics or automation systems.
Valid driver’s license and clean boating record for vessel operation.
Work Environment
Settings: Work is performed in boatyards, marinas, repair shops, or onboard vessels. Technicians may work indoors or outdoors, depending on the task.
Conditions: Exposure to marine environments, including water, chemicals, and noise. Tasks may involve working in cramped or elevated spaces.
Travel: Some positions require travel to customer locations or different marinas, especially for field service roles.
Schedule: Full-time, with potential overtime during peak seasons (spring/summer). Some roles may involve on-call availability for emergency repairs.
