High School Assistant Girls Track Coach - Hammond Central HS Join the Indianapolis Public Schools team as a High School Assistant Girls Track Coach at Hammond Central High School. This role reports to the athletic director/ building principal and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the girls track program.

General Description The assistant coach is accountable for the overall development of the girls track program, ensuring participation and friendly competition while maintaining compliance with school and state regulations.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Be responsible to the building principal and the school Director of Physical Education and Athletics.

Establish objectives for the program and develop a plan for implementing these objectives.

Develop the athletics program to the utmost, focusing on participation and friendly competition.

Coordinate athletic activities so they do not conflict with the normal school program.

Provide vigorous activities that develop physical fitness and cardiovascular performance.

Develop students’ leadership and citizenship through sportsmanship.

Foster self‑expression, self‑confidence, and self‑discipline.

Know and apply rules, regulations and policies of the Hammond School Board, the school administration, the Supervisor of Physical Education and Athletics, the Indiana High School Athletic Association, and the Indiana Lake Shore Conference.

Participate in preparing an athletic budget, selecting and hiring officials, requisitioning equipment, arranging transportation, and scheduling.

Follow the “Caring for an Injured Athlete” procedures when injuries occur.

Ensure all athletes have the required physical examination and IHSAA “Parent & Physician’s Certificate.”

Assist with player eligibility checks and IHSAA entry submissions.

Collaborate with the Director of Athletics on equipment condition and disposition.

Develop sound public relations with parents and media.

Attend staff meetings, clinics, and professional development activities.

Establish and maintain conduct, dress, and appearance rules with the athletic staff.

Qualifications

Expert knowledge of the sport being taught.

Thorough understanding of participants’ physical, mental, and emotional needs.

Skill in teaching fundamental techniques.

Desirable character and personality traits.

High moral standards.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and administration.

Knowledge of relevant rules and regulations.

Available to supervise activities beyond the school day.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Employment Information

Personnel are recommended annually by the building principal and approved by the superintendent.

Compensation will be determined by the School City of Hammond agreement.

Performance of the job will be evaluated annually.
