The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water is recruiting for a Natural Resource Specialist 2 (Mine Permitting Specialist) in Anchorage.
What You Will Be Doing The Natural Resource Specialist 2 focuses on the technical review and adjudication of mining-related land use authorizations within the Application for Permits to Mine in Alaska (APMA) program, as well as mineral land management tasks. The role involves:
Drafting permit conditions and stipulations to minimize environmental impacts and ensure compliance.
Coordinating with permittees, agencies, stakeholders, and providing information to the public.
Conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with permits and reclamation plans.
The specialist also contributes to the Statewide Mining Reclamation Bond pool and performs case‑file management duties.

Competencies and Minimum Qualifications
Compliance Inspection : Knowledge of guidelines, regulations, and procedures associated with compliance inquiries, including application of compliance rules and criteria and ability to make appropriate decisions and issue citations, fines, or orders.
Mining Engineering : Knowledge of rock mechanics, exploration, extraction, processing, and transporting mineral resources, and the conservation and development of mineral lands.
Stakeholder Management : Ability to identify, engage, influence, and monitor relationships with individuals and groups connected to work efforts.
Analytical Thinking/Problem‑Solving : Logical, systematic approach to address problems or opportunities.
Decision‑Making : Makes sound, well‑informed, and objective decisions; commits to action even in uncertain situations.
Legal, Government, and Jurisprudence : Knowledge of laws, regulations, and executive orders.
Oral Communication : Expresses information effectively to individuals or groups.
Writing : Produces organized written information, including technical material.
