Correctional Youth Security Officer II - Phoenix Youth Service Center
Department: Division of Youth Services (DYS) Location: 7862 W Mansfield Pkwy, Lakewood, CO 80235 Shift: Mon‑Fri 7a‑3p (may require overtime on a rotating basis) Responsibilities
Safety/Security – supervise adjudicated and pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting, enforce behavioral management plans, intervene in crisis, use restraint when necessary, conduct searches, and debrief incidents. Youth Center Programming – implement the Youth Center’s behavioral management program, teach, coach, and redirect youth within the program and support DYS initiatives and crisis intervention. Documentation/Recording and Reporting – document observations of youth behavior, record all unit activities and required information in logs and record systems, and document all youth group activities in database systems. Training – complete DYS Pre‑Service training academy, Youth Center training, and orientation process as a new employee; maintain all assigned online training. Organizational Accountability – demonstrate adherence to DYS organizational values (Nonviolence, Open Communication, Social Responsibility, Growth and Change, Social Learning, Democracy, and Emotional Intelligence) and CDHS Code of Conduct, DYS Compliance Review Standards, and DYS policies. Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. One (1) year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position (additional appropriate education substitutes on a year‑for‑year basis). Basic knowledge of or experience working with adjudicated and/or detained youth within a secure residential facility and/or a behavioral health setting; experience facilitating psychoeducational groups; experience working with adolescents who have trauma; experience working with youth in positive leadership roles, such as mentoring and coaching; experience utilizing verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques. College education in a behavioral health and/or juvenile justice‑related field (preferred). Be a minimum of 21 years of age, with no felony convictions or history of domestic violence. Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the DYS Pre‑Service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO), and mandatory annual training in all subject areas. Shift work subject to assigned shift; mandatory overtime may be required; travel to assigned training and/or alternate work sites may be required. Conditions of Employment
Full background check required (CBI name check, fingerprint check, icon Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification, drug screen, PREA, trails check, CAPS). Transportation of youth in state vehicles may be required. The Diana Screen® sexual risk screening tool is administered to all applicants to the Division of Youth Services (DYS) seeking positions of trust with children and teens. The results of the Diana Screen® will be provided to the Division of Youth Services and may be used as part of the Division’s decision on whether the applicant is selected. Uniform and Equipment
