Overview
The Automatic Transmission/Driveline/Gear Reducer Application Engineer will be part of the Chief Engineering (CE) organization to drive priority into the Propulsion System organization to meet timing and requirements on product launches and serial life production. This role includes managing Quality Total Warranty Cost (QTWC) priorities for the respective organizations. It coordinates with Product Releasing, Development and Validation teams to create plans that reduce 3MIS (three months in service) claims and 12MIS (twelve months in service) warranty cost. To track vehicle applications and timing, this role will manage the development of the Applications Matrix including all interface requirements for given programs, variants, and vehicle platforms. The candidate will coordinate packaging studies with each vehicle application to ensure clearance requirements are met. They will lead advanced vehicle adaptation design studies and freezes. They own the Transmission Technical Specification (TTS) and communicate application-specific requirements to the entire organization. This includes coordination of Center of Expertise (COE) assessments of bulletins and production release engineering responses for required funding and resources. Responsibilities
Manage Quality Total Warranty Cost cross-functional task force teams, create priorities, action plans, and track progress, align and update initiatives list First responder to Component Quality Analysis Team New Emerging Issue alerts Interact with DSE, MFG and DRE to develop the next steps plan, and document the plan to the team Coordinate next steps and track progress, working side by side with DSE/DRE to set up plans or tests needed Update status and results into GIMS, Quality Initiatives documents, and QEC teardown results database Manage the development of the Applications Matrix including all interface requirements for programs, variants, and platforms Coordinate packaging studies with vehicle applications to ensure clearance requirements are met Lead advanced vehicle adaptation designs studies and freezes Update and coordinate approvals of International Product Spec releases Update and coordinate approvals of owner's manuals Update and coordinate approvals of CP, Compliance Report Standards Negotiate requirements with vehicle platforms based on product limitations and capabilities Own the Transmission Technical Specifications (TTS) and communicate application-specific requirements (e.g., max torque, NVH, FE, tire size, FDR, mass) Define and track adherence to vehicle-level and system-level/sub-system functional objectives Coordinate external design changes requiring platform approval; perform TOS as required Develop, manage, and communicate external issues and change management Review and approve the Application Checklist for CN Coordination of application-specific designs (torque converter, dampers, vents, LV & HV wire connections, bracket attachments, trans oil cooling, PIM and e-motor integration, etc.) including controls and calibration strategies Represent the chief organization on vehicle assembly plant requirements and events (e.g., pilot builds, EOL test, VIN marking, build issues) Development Manager leads vehicle assembly issues; AE supports Lead Build Readiness tasks (instrumentation plan, dyno support) Coordinate COE assessments of bulletins and AT engineering response to bulletins Manage prototype hardware procurements and ED&D requisitions Manage BRT (Build Readiness Team) for prototype orders Lead for shipping and receiving parts/transmissions for builds to/from suppliers Requirements
Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in automotive design, releasing, development, validation, calibration, manufacturing, program management, etc. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering and/or Business Administration Engineering experience in the automotive industry Education
