Summary

Full-time position. The Head Women’s Softball Coach will manage an intercollegiate softball program to include recruiting, instructing, and coaching students and coordinating various program related activities. The head coach of Women’s Softball is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Bay College and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree

Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

Experience developing and facilitating workshops

Experience in utilizing a diverse range of technologies and ability to learn various technology resources

Prior experience coaching and supporting students

Event and program management experience

College coaching or playing experience

Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sports program

Knowledge of NJCAA regulations and guidelines governing recruitment and retention of student-athletes

Ability to lead and guide student-athletes

Valid State of Michigan driver’s license

Ability to adapt to change in processes and procedures

Enthusiastic, people oriented, a winning attitude

Passion for results

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree preferred

A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging

Knowledge of FYE philosophy

Prior higher education recruiting experience

Previous advising experience

Prior teaching experience

Hours and Supervision

Months per year: 12 Hours per week: Minimum of 40 hours per week Work schedule: Not specified

Supervises assistant coaches, managers, and student workers. Reports to the Director of Transfer and Advising for the Student-Athlete Success Coach and the Athletic Director for the Softball Coach/Assistant Athletic Director.

Job Duties

Head Softball Coach : Teach sport skills, condition and motivate student-athletes, and utilize effective strategies to produce a positive student experience. Monitor attendance, academic progress, and graduation. Oversee conduct of student-athletes and discipline as necessary. Recruit and retain student-athletes in accordance with NJCAA rules. Assist with eligibility/compliance paperwork. Plan, prepare and administer practice plans and competitive strategy. Arrange game schedules and travel. Ensure game day operations, including officials and trainers. Provide statistics and reports as needed. Lead all aspects of the program and represent the sport externally. Promote Bay College’s vision of student success and a culture of success.

Student-Athlete Success Coach Responsibilities : Coordinate supports for student-athletes, orient students on admissions, placement tests, registration, policies, resources; develop academic plans; coordinate study tables; support retention and persistence goals; act as primary advising contact for student-athletes; work with campus resources to support student success; develop and facilitate workshops; manage academic plans in the advising system.

Compliance/Game Day Management Responsibilities : Maintain compliance systems, develop procedures to monitor NJCAA/Region XII rules, develop handbooks, verify eligibility, investigate rule violations, comply with audits, manage home game day operations, recruit and manage officials and game-day staff, coordinate facilities use, data entry for schedules, and assist with fundraising and facility programming.

Sports Information Director Responsibilities : Write press materials, manage media guides and game programs, maintain athletics records and statistics, update website and social media, provide media support for events, nominate athletes for awards, hire and supervise student workers, coordinate handbooks, stay current on NJCAA rules, assist with fundraising and special programs.
