Job Summary The
Head Women’s Softball Coach/Fitness Room Coordinator
is responsible for administration of all aspects of the intercollegiate women’s Softball program and for coordinating Fitness Room operations for the college’s Intercollegiate Athletics facility. The Coach/Coordinator is expected to work in cooperation with staff across the Athletics Department and other units to develop and maintain a high quality intercollegiate women’s Softball program, offering an excellent experience to participating student‑athletes.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Minimum of four years of coaching experience in women's softball at the high school or collegiate level, either as a head coach or assistant coach.
Ability to recruit student athletes and create an atmosphere conducive to student success in academics, personal development, and athletics.
Essential Job Functions – Women’s Softball (70%)
Provide leadership for and administer all aspects of the intercollegiate Women’s Softball program for 20-25 participants, including recruitment of student-athletes, budget development and management, maintenance and inventory of equipment, travel and transportation planning, and scheduling of practices and competitions.
Instruct student-athletes in individual skills, tactics/strategy, rules, and fundamentals of women’s Softball at the intercollegiate level.
Teach student-athletes’ principles and practices in health, fitness, and conditioning associated with successful participation in intercollegiate women’s Softball.
Operate program in compliance with institutional, Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA), and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules.
Counsel and advise student-athletes in academic matters, including academic planning, course selection, and student success strategies.
Coordinate efforts to assist student-athletes in transferring to four-year colleges and universities.
Track and monitor academic progress of student-athletes to ensure academic success, retention, and completion.
Participate in fundraising, public relations, and promotional activities for the athletic department and the women’s Softball program.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Essential Job Functions – Fitness Room Coordinator (25%)
Coordinate scheduling of the Fitness Room for sports team’s specific times.
Manage Fitness Room budget including ordering cleaning products and towels.
Coordinate scheduling of supervisors during “Open Times”.
Manage any equipment repairs and replacements.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Responsibilities
Strong and effective interpersonal skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills, encompassing teaching, public speaking, and public relations.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge of procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency.
Knowledge of comprehensive community college concept.
Proficiency with various software packages including Microsoft Office suite.
Work Activities & Equipment
Work activities routinely involve work with tools and equipment related to softball, athletics, and physical fitness. Tools and equipment could weigh up to 50 pounds. Activities also involve work with personal computers and peripheral devices, as well as basic office machines.
Must be a licensed driver and able to operate a vehicle.
Job Location This position is an on‑site role located in the L. Quenten Lane Gymnasium located on the main campus of Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee. Regular travel to athletic events at other institutions and to recruitment purposes is expected. Travel may also be required within the college’s 5‑county service area to attend state meetings, etc.
