The Certified Pedorthist is responsible for providing professional orthotic treatment to patients. The incumbent evaluates patients with physical disabilities, diseases, or deformities to determine appropriate orthotic treatment. In consultation with medical staff, residents, and therapists, the Pedorthist develops treatment plans and selects suitable foot orthoses and pedorthic footwear. The role involves designing, fabricating, fitting, and modifying foot orthoses and footwear, often working independently on various cases with minimal supervision. The Pedorthist may serve multiple practice locations. Key responsibilities include: Assessing patients' foot and lower limb conditions through evaluations such as gait analysis and biomechanical assessments. Interpreting assessment data to develop comprehensive management plans aligned with provider prescriptions. Collaborating with medical teams to determine optimal treatment options and advising physicians as needed. Designing and fabricating custom orthotic devices based on individual patient needs and prescriptions. Evaluating, adjusting, and ensuring the proper fit and function of orthotic devices and related prosthetic or orthotic equipment. Using computerized techniques to design and produce three-dimensional models for specialized footwear. Measuring, fitting, adjusting, and instructing patients on the use and care of prefabricated and custom-made orthoses. Documenting patient visits and treatment details accurately in medical records. Managing materials, inventory, and maintaining quality standards to optimize device efficacy and control costs. Staying current with advancements in pedorthic practices and completing continuing education requirements. Performing additional duties as assigned. Qualifications include: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent, and completion of an American Board Certification-approved Pedorthic Education pre-certification course. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Podiatry, or a related field. Required: At least 1,000 hours of supervised pedorthic patient care experience, or 500 hours if holding a relevant national license/certification. Preferred: Two years of experience as a Pedorthist. Required: Certification as a Certified Pedorthist (C.Ped.) by the American Board for Certification (ABC).
