Overview

The Certified Pedorthist is responsible for the provision of professional orthotic treatment for patients. The incumbent is proficient in evaluating patients with physical disabilities, disease or deformity for appropriate orthotic treatment. In consultation with other medical staff, residents, and therapists, the Pedorthist determines the optimal treatment plan and selects appropriate foot orthoses and pedorthic footwear. This is an independent position responsible for a variety of cases with minimal supervision and may provide care to patients in multiple clinical locations. Responsibilities

Assess patients' foot and lower limb conditions through evaluations, including gait analysis and biomechanical assessments, to accurately diagnose and understand patients' needs. Interpret patient assessment information to develop a comprehensive plan for patient management to achieve provider prescription goals. Collaborate with medical staff, residents, and therapists on optimal treatment plans for pedorthic services; recommend treatment options to physicians when necessary. Design and fabricate custom orthotic devices, such as shoe inserts, braces, and footwear modifications, based on patients' individual requirements and in accordance with prescriptions. Evaluate pedorthotic devices and any collateral prosthetic or orthotic devices on the patient; adjust to assure fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality of work. Use computerized techniques to design and create three-dimensional models for the manufacturer for specialized footwear. Select appropriate orthosis. Document visit notes, codes, and other information into the patient’s chart to maintain an accurate medical record. Utilize materials management, quality, and performance processes to maximize device quality and medical efficacy, balancing costs and performance. Monitor inventory for patient devices and supplies to ensure successful delivery of items. Stay updated on the latest advancements in pedorthic practices and complete CEU requirements to maintain certification. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience

Education: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of American Board Certification approved Pedorthic Education pre-certification education course; Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Podiatry, or related field. Experience: Required: Completion of 1,000 hours of supervised pedorthic patient care experience (or 500 hours if holding a related license/certification); Preferred: Two years of experience as a Pedorthist. Licensure/Certification
