Housekeeping Aid/PD99909S – Environmental Management Services, VA Medical Center, Bay Pines and Cape Coral locations. Job Summary

This position performs janitorial and custodial services including sanitizing, disinfecting, waste removal, cleaning of blinds, curtains, windows, walls, dusting, polishing furniture, floor maintenance, and application of floor finishes. The role supports patient care areas, patient rooms, common areas, and clinical facilities. Responsibilities

Perform floor maintenance, wall washing, and sweeping, dust mopping, damp and wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, vacuuming, and extracting carpets; spot clean and high/low dusting. Empty trash and wastebaskets; replace liners; transport general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to central collection areas. Clean rest rooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms; disinfect, deodorize lavatories, showers, bathtubs, urinals, toilet bowls; clean mirrors, sinks, water fountains; wash and polish light fixtures. Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap in all areas where dispensers are located. Move and arrange furniture, patient wardrobes, beds, and other items to accomplish cleaning tasks. Provide bed‑making services in patient care areas; clean mattresses, springs, bed frames, and bedside stands; over‑bed lights; blood pressure cuffs; bed tables in patient rooms. Remove bags of soiled textiles from patient rooms; transport to the designated soiled room; load and unload clean textiles from bulk carts; restock clean textile closets, cabinets, shelves, carts; participate in inventory management activities. Defrost and clean patient care refrigerators and ice machines in nourishment kitchen areas; clean stainless steel, storage cabinets, counters, elevators, lobbies, wards, diet‑kitchens, and nurse utility rooms; clean ashtrays, smoke stands, sand urns, and water fountains. Provide interim cleaning of windows and window ledges from the inside; clean glass doors and other glass surfaces; replace curtains and clean blinds. Clean and/or replace needle boxes; periodically clean specific non‑critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) in inpatient and clinical areas. Collaborate with a Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) worker and perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule

Full‑time and part‑time opportunities; weekdays, weekends, and holidays required; shifts subject to change to meet agency needs. Physical Requirements

Continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing; occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (wall washers, industrial buffers) weighing over 50 pounds; dexterity, hand, foot, eye coordination, concentration, and visual acuity required. Qualifications

U.S. citizenship; non‑citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited. Suitable for federal employment; background investigation required. All applicants subject to urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment; denial for refusal to test. Selective Services registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Complete online onboarding; acceptable identification forms required. Probationary period of 1 year with evaluation of fitness and public interest alignment. Required Experience & Education
