Requirements and Eligibility Applicants MUST have:
Graduate of the WSCJTC Basic Academy with current and valid certification through the WSCJTC
Graduate of a WSCJTC-recognized equivalent training program as defined by WAC 139-05-210
Graduate of the Washington State Patrol Training Academy
Graduate of any US State Certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy

Minimum Requirements
One of: WSCJTC Basic Academy graduate with current certification; WSCJTC-equivalency graduate; Washington State Patrol Training Academy graduate; or US state basic LEA academy graduate
Experience as an officer is not required
If not currently in law enforcement, must have been separated from previous agency for less than two years
Must be 21 years of age or older; US citizen or lawful permanent resident
Ability to read and write English; high school diploma or equivalent
Pass pre-selection interview, situational-based assessment, pre-suitability testing, polygraph, psychological, medical examinations, drug screening, and comprehensive background investigation
Normal color vision; visual acuity in accordance with stated requirements
Verification of Peace Officer certification must be attached to application
Must obtain/maintain a valid WA Driver’s License
Applicants who have not graduated from WSCJTC must obtain certification within 15 months of hire; equivalency training within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
Enforce laws and ordinances; preserve the peace and protect life and property
Deterrence, investigation of crimes, traffic enforcement, and public safety education
Investigate crime scenes, collect and safeguard evidence; interview witnesses; apprehend offenders
Prepare detailed investigative and court-ready reports; provide testimony
Operate equipment (two-way radios, cameras, computers, etc.) and maintain firearm proficiency
Establish and maintain communication with supervisors, coworkers, public, and other agencies
Maintain personal discipline and promote a constructive work environment
Support community policing values: citizen involvement, service orientation, problem-solving
Attend training and participate in specialized units; provide training to others
Seek continuous improvement to reduce turnaround times and improve operations
Maintain regular and reliable attendance; perform other related duties as assigned
Physical Demands and Working Conditions Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions. Requires extended periods in vehicles, and frequent use of senses, typing, and manual dexterity. May involve lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, and exposure to hazardous materials. Must wear safety equipment as necessary.
Unusual Working Conditions include rotating shifts, night hours, inclement weather, short notice calls, weekends/holidays, and potential life-threatening situations requiring sound judgment.
