Overview
This Advanced Practice Provider-Clinical Nurse Specialist (APP-CNS) is a vital member of the Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center's Leadership Council, supporting adult solid organ transplant clinical practice across the care continuum, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives. The APP-CNS provides specialty nursing consultation and collaborates with teams to design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based care practices for the only comprehensive transplant center in Virginia. The interprofessional transplant team includes experienced registered nurses, transplant coordinators, social workers, physicians, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, neuropsychologists, pharmacy specialists, medical and surgical specialists. The APP-CNS collaborates with a team of APP-CNSs to meet the CNS Mission and Vision: to improve patient health by providing advanced nursing specialty consultation, optimizing evidence-based care, patient safety, and efficiency in healthcare delivery, and applying advanced systems thinking to impact care and populations served. Candidates with Adult Acute/Geriatric or Critical Care CNS specialty certification are considered. 2+ years of adult transplant CNS experience is preferred. Final hire is contingent upon credentialing/privileging and acquisition of prescriptive license. Qualifications include a Masters degree as an Advanced Practice Provider (Clinical Nurse Specialist). Licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider (Clinical Nurse Specialist) in Virginia, current BLS, and any position-specific requirements such as PALS/NRP and ACLS. Responsibilities
Evaluates and provides care, treatment, and consultation for patients with complex health concerns within specialty scope of practice, using advanced assessment skills Develops treatment plans and provides education/coaching to patients and families with complex needs Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency, where applicable Prescribes and recommends pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions within the APP-CNS scope of practice and institutional policies Uses advanced communication skills to facilitate collaboration among patients, families, and clinicians to address complex care needs and promote ethical decision-making Leads and facilitates coordinated care with patients/families and interprofessional teams to improve outcomes Acts as a clinical resource, providing education and coaching to nurses and other interdisciplinary team members Leadership and Quality
Cultivates a practice environment with mutual respect, communication, and collaboration for safe, high-quality outcomes Demonstrates leadership in development, mentorship, and empowerment of others in the healthcare community Supports professional practice of the Advanced Practice group through responsible interfaces with the public and health care community Quality and Innovation
Participates in quality improvement initiatives to advance patient care and outcomes through best practice implementation Assesses implications of access, quality, safety, and cost in healthcare delivery Collects and analyzes patient data to document the impact of nursing practice on outcomes, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness Pursues opportunities for research, implementation, and analysis of evidence-based practice Mentors nurses to analyze research findings affecting practice and patient outcomes; disseminates knowledge through outreach Lifelong Learning

Education: Master’s Degree as an Advanced Practice Provider (Clinical Nurse Specialist) Experience: 2+ years of adult transplant CNS experience preferred Licensure: Virginia license or license eligibility as an Advanced Practice Provider (Clinical Nurse Specialist) Must demonstrate and maintain credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Medical Center, Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS/NRP) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as position-specific Physical Demands
Standing for prolonged periods; travel/bending/stooping as required. Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills; ability to lift/push/pull 20–50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious disease. Some travel may be required. Position Compensation Range: $87,755.20 - $140,400.00 annual Benefits
