Eligibility Requirements
U.S. citizenship
Personal History Statement completed on exam day
Certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
Education: at least 48 hours of college credit with 2.0 GPA from an accredited institution, OR
At least 2 years of experience as a regular full‑time peace officer, OR
At least 2 years of active‑duty military service with honorable discharge, OR
License issued by TCOLE for at least 2 years, OR
Current full‑time employee of Grand Prairie Police Department for 2 years prior to exam
Police Lateral Entry Program The program awards seniority pay based on prior law‑enforcement experience.
Lateral eligibility requires:
At least 2 consecutive years of full‑time certified peace‑officer service (in‑state or out‑of‑state) approved by the Chief of Police
Authority to enforce laws, investigate crimes, make arrests, respond to calls, carry a firearm, and use discretion
No break in service longer than 3 years between leaving former agency and applying to Grand Prairie Police Department
