The purpose of this position is to protect and serve the property and citizens of the City. This is accomplished by patrolling the City, recognizing and citing offenses and making arrests where necessary. Other duties may include promoting a secure environment, enforcing traffic laws, reporting motor vehicle accidents, investigating crimes, maintaining positive community relations and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees. The Allen Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Out of State Lateral Police Officer.

Individuals who meet the minimum qualifications listed below are invited to submit an online employment application. Once an application has been received, you will be emailed directions on completing the Personal History Statement and Preliminary Interview packet. Those selected to continue will be contacted to schedule the testing and complete the hiring process. We try to limit your trips to Texas to two. Out of State Lateral Program

To be eligible for the lateral process, you must meet all the requirements. Check the

site to make sure you meet their requirements. Do not start the process with TCOLE or apply with us until you are sure you''re ready to move to Texas. You will need to complete the hiring process, move, and complete all the required courses once employed within 6 months. Out-of-State Lateral Requirements: Eligible for certification from TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) and meet the requirements for the Out of State Peace Officer process. You must meet all the following requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a current and valid Driver's License. Two (2) years of continuous service as a full-time law enforcement officer answering calls for service and possessing arrest powers from a Municipality, Sheriff's Office, or Department of Public Safety plus completion of at least 45 college credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Additionally, you must have been assigned to patrol duties and successfully completed a field training program, OR Three (3) years of continuous service as a full-time law enforcement officer answering calls for service and possessing arrest powers from a Municipality, Sheriff's Office, or Department of Public Safety with a High School diploma or GED. Additionally, you must have been assigned full-time to patrol duties and successfully completed a field training program (FTO). The Chief of Police or Designee will individually assess your experience to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria. Passing all stages of the hiring process is mandatory. Testing is by appointment. The Chief of Police retains the authority to mandate attendance at a police academy for those who are chosen. Note:

DO NOT start this process; ensure you meet the criteria before applying. You will be asked to complete the hiring process, move, and complete required courses within 6 months. Essential Functions

The following duties are not an exhaustive list but represent primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Promotes a secure environment by patrolling the City by car, on foot and by bike; deter crime by presence; assist in high risk situations; provide surveillance operations; take reports; operate Police equipment; enforce laws and ordinances; subdue combative individuals; make lawful arrests and keep the peace on civil scenes. Enforces traffic laws by patrolling roadways, responding to calls, observing violations, issuing citations or warnings, and filing reports. Reports on motor vehicle accidents by responding, clearing the roadway, interviewing involved parties, recording evidence, and filing reports. Investigates crimes by interviewing witnesses, victims and suspects, gathering and documenting evidence, submitting evidence, filing reports, taking suspects into custody, and filing charges through the District Attorney's office. Maintains positive community relations by answering questions and providing civic services, surveying the public, and engaging with citizens on Police matters. Job Requirements

Education and Experience Completed at least 45 college credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher plus two (2) years of continuous service as a full-time law enforcement officer; OR High School diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years of continuous service as a full-time law enforcement officer; must have arrest powers, patrol duties, and completed a field training program. *Credits recognized by the Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education will be accepted. Special Requirements Must be at least 21 years of age. License or Certification Must possess a current and valid Driver's License and/or be able to obtain a Texas Driver's License prior to employment. Eligible for certification from TCOLE and meet Out of State Peace Officer requirements.

HIRING PROCESS After submitting your paperwork, you will be contacted to schedule a test date/time. On test day, bring proper identification. The steps must be completed prior to appointment as a Police Officer: Entrance Examination The entrance exam is a four-part assessment. You must score 70 or higher in each section to pass. Physical Assessment 1.5 mile run within 15:26 300 meter run within 62 seconds 26 push-ups 30 sit-ups within 60 seconds You must pass each element to proceed. Background Investigation Extensive checks will be conducted on criminal, driving, employment, education, and credit records, plus character references. Interview Board Interview covers background, employment history, law enforcement experience, criminal/traffic history, military service, and includes situational reasoning questions. Polygraph Examination Administered by a licensed examiner; results reviewed per state guidelines. The Chief of Police makes final employment decisions. Psychological Examination Assesses suitability for law enforcement. Applicants must receive a rating of 4.0 or above to pass. Physical Examination and Drug Screen Evaluates ability to perform essential job functions; includes vision, hearing, and general physical fitness testing. Successful completion of all phases leads to an interview with the Chief of Police or designee. Eligibility Requirements for Police Officer Applicant must be at least 21 years old. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen. Minimum education/experience: 45 college credits and two years of service OR a high school diploma and three years of service; both paths require arrest powers and completion of a field training program. Military service: honorable discharge or eligible for reenlistment. Valid motor vehicle operator's license. No disqualifying criminal history; other standards apply per policy. Ability to work shift work, holidays and weekends; ability to read, write and comprehend training materials; ability to establish working relationships; ability to learn firearms and equipment. Vision: 20/20 in each eye with/without correction; color vision requirements apply. Hearing standards apply. INELIGIBILITY AND DISQUALIFIERS LIST Disqualifiers include citizenship status, certain criminal histories, driving violations, or other criteria as described by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Tattoos on hands, neck, face or head are not allowed without approval.
