Req#: 3197 Position Type: High School Teaching/ ESL Date Posted: 6/20/2023 Location: Medford High School Medford High School – 2 Positions English Learner Teacher/English Learner Career Technical Education 23-24 Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal and the Director of English Learners, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through: implementing district approved English Language Development (ELD) and content area curriculum (if applicable); addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress, activities, and expectations.
Performance Responsibilities
Develops and administers English Language Development curriculum and content school curriculum consistent with school and district goals and objectives. Deliver push-in/pull-out/co-taught ESL lessons to students with varying levels of English proficiency as determined by the recommended periods of instruction set forth by the Mass. DESE. Implement content curriculum using WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and Common Core State Standards for ELs in grades 9-12. Support students in Career and Technical Education programs. Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning. Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and attendance as required by the CBA agreement between the Medford Public Schools and the Medford Teachers Association. Participate in faculty and department, and/or district committees and meetings required by the CBA agreement between the Medford Public Schools and the Medford Teachers Association. Maintain records and student data as needed by the ELL/Title III Department. Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Familiar with WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and ACCESS testing. Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents and administrators. Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students with an emphasis on building on the strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process. Ability to collect and interpret data for instructional purposes. Excellent written and oral communications skills in English. Ability to engage in self-evaluation process with regard to performance and professional growth as required in the CBA agreement between the Medford Teachers Association and the Medford Public Schools. Proficiency in a language other than English is preferred. Qualifications Profile
Valid Massachusetts teacher certification in ESL at the appropriate grade levels. Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Masters Degree preferred. Bilingual Preferred. Experience
Successful teaching experience with newcomer EL students as well as other levels of English proficiency.
