Graduate Assistant Coach - Women’s Track & Field and Cross Country Northern Illinois University is seeking to hire a Graduate Teaching Assistant position (9-month) for the Women’s Track & Field program. This position will work primarily with sprints, throws, hurdles & jumps and report to the Director of Track & Field/XC Coach during the indoor and outdoor season.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Work alongside NIU Track & Field coaching staff in all aspects of the programs.

Assist the coaching staff with the planning and preparation of all practices.

Assist and monitor workout programs for sprints, throws, hurdles & jumps.

Assist staff in identifying and recruiting qualified student-athletes to NIU.

Assist in planning and organizing travel logistics for the Track & Field Program.

Responsible for attending all practices and off-campus competitions.

Responsible for driving athletes to practices and competitions.

Assist with home meet management and operations.

Abide by all written policies, procedures, and guidelines of Northern Illinois University, the Department of Athletics, the Mid-American Conference, and NCAA I Compliance.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Previous participation and/or coaching experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Admissions to a Master Program at NIU

Must maintain a Graduate GPA of at least 3.0.

Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Willing to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within first 90 days of employment.

Preferred qualifications: Successful competitive experience at the university or college level.

Additional Requirements: As a staff member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, you are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations, both those general in nature and those which apply directly to your position’s responsibilities. Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the NCAA is required and is a condition of your employment.

Tuition Waiver: If meeting all education and departmental requirements, Graduate Teaching Assistants receive a tuition waiver applied at the rate of $387.70 per credit hour. The tuition waiver does NOT cover 100% of tuition. The tuition waiver applies only to the instructional tuition charges and does not cover institutional charges, program differentials, additional fees such as course/lab fees, books, student insurance, etc.

Hours: Graduate Assistants can be hired at ½ time (10 hours); ¾ time (15 hours); and full-time (20 hours). Full-time (20-hour) Graduate Assistants cannot exceed 20 hours per work week. New Graduate Assistants must be admitted to the NIU Graduate School before we can proceed with the hiring process.

Pay Rate: Full-time (20 hour) Graduate Teaching Assistants are paid $894.60 semi-monthly (non-Ph.D. students).

Please note, all Graduate Assistantships are contingent upon the acceptance and enrollment in the NIU Graduate School and clearance of a criminal background check. No offers are made beyond the current fiscal year. Should the Graduate Assistant continue to meet all academic and departmental requirements, discussion for a 2nd year of reappointment will be taken into consideration.
