The Managing Attorney will oversee the operational aspects for the Litigation Management team, working closely with the department Director. Responsibilities include creating, managing, and improving operational processes; assisting with budget planning and financial measures; identifying and leading initiatives to improve efficiency; and ensuring effective communication between legal and business teams. The role also involves practicing as a Litigation Attorney with a reduced case count and supervising a staff of Litigation team members. The position works autonomously under the general supervision of the Litigation Management department Director. Essential Duties And Responsibilities & Directs the operations
Directs the operations of law office personnel providing litigation and legal services. Oversees law office operations to ensure efficient operations of In-House Counsel. Contributes to strategic business decisions to achieve company goals. Ensures client satisfaction by evaluating productivity and quality of service. Identifies and implements work process improvements and remediations. Collaborates with management to meet financial and ROI goals, identifies trends, prepares reports, and implements modifications as needed. Mentors less experienced attorneys, law clerks, paralegals, and assistants to support professional growth. Litigation Services & Case Management
Provides litigation services and handles all aspects of assigned Workers’ Compensation matters with a reduced caseload. Litigates workers’ compensation cases in California before all state and federal courts, administrative boards, and other proceedings. Represents ICW Group and related entities before administrative boards, state and federal courts, Court of Appeal, and California Supreme Court. Analyzes complex legal and factual issues; conducts research; independently develops and presents defense strategies. Provides strategic legal advice and cost-effective action plans; analyzes new legislation, regulations, and court decisions. Team Oversight & Leadership
Oversees a team of Litigation Management professionals; supervises and develops associate attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, hearing representatives, and support staff. Communicates performance expectations and provides guidance to achieve results. Expands substantive expertise across the team and reinforces ICW/mission values. Maintains work cadence and ensures performance and outcomes align with excellence in delivery and customer experience. Acts as a resource for team members to resolve questions and problems. Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees within the Litigation Management team in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning and directing work, performance reviews, rewards, and disciplinary actions. Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree dari four-year college or university; Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school required. Minimum 8–10 years of workers’ compensation legal experience required. 2 years supervisory experience in roles such as associate attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, hearing representatives, or support staff. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of California with no history of reprisals. Knowledge & Skills
Expert knowledge of litigating California workers’ compensation matters with trial experience; strong understanding of administrative rules and laws. Ability to work with Excel to create financial and performance reports. Effective communication with internal/external stakeholders; proficient in creating automated reports and data retrieval. Strong written and oral communication; logical problem-solving; professional demeanor; ability to work independently with initiative. Physical Requirements
Office environment with standard duties; regular sitting, walking, standing, talking, and hearing. Work Environment
Position operates in office, home, and court environments; requires travel to court locations and periodic presence at ICW Group offices. Compensation & Benefits
We are currently not offering employment sponsorship for this opportunity. Salary range: $137,617.39 - $232,082.34 (base salary; exclusive of benefits and bonuses). Final base salary will be determined by factors including experience, education, and role location. Why Join ICW Group?
