Finance and Accounting Executive Recruiter/Partner at Conexus (CFO, IT & HR Talent Solutions). The Corporate Controller is a key financial leadership position responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions for our large portfolio of multifamily and residential properties. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role ensures the integrity of financial data, implements best practices in financial controls, and provides strategic financial insights to support company growth and maximize asset value. The ideal candidate is a seasoned accounting professional with extensive experience in real estate and property management accounting, a proven leader, and an expert in GAAP compliance. Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly manages and provides leadership to the corporate and property accounting teams. Oversees the hiring, training, and performance management of accounting staff. Fosters a collaborative and high-performing team culture. Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Operations Oversee the entire accounting cycle for multiple entities and consolidated reports, including timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closings. Prepare and present financial statements, performance reports, and variance analyses to senior management and investors. Manage corporate cash flow, forecasting, and treasury functions to meet operational needs and debt obligations. Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring all property-level and corporate transactions are recorded accurately and efficiently. Maintain accurate ledgers for all properties, including acquisitions, capital improvements, and dispositions. Coordinate all annual independent audits and tax filings, acting as the primary liaison with external CPA firms. Compliance and Internal Controls Ensure strict compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements relevant to the real estate and property management industries. Develop, document, and enforce internal financial controls and policies to protect company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data. Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes and systems to improve efficiency and controls. Monitor compliance with debt facility covenants and other bank reporting requirements. Strategic and Analytic Support Collaborate with asset management and operations teams to develop annual budgets and reforecasts. Conduct financial analysis for special projects, potential acquisitions, and other business initiatives. Provide financial insights to support the development of long-range strategic plans. Review and analyze performance metrics and financial data to help identify risks and opportunities. Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities: In-depth, hands-on knowledge of real estate and property management accounting principles. Expertise in accounting software specific to real estate (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, RealPage). Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate an accounting team. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial audiences. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation strongly preferred. A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
