This is a manual labor role that requires proficiency in various skills, duties, and requirements during a prescribed training period.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Demonstrate reliable and punctual attendance. Follow written and verbal instructions to complete tasks on schedule. Read, write, and communicate effectively in English & understand basic math. Learn from instructions, observations, and mistakes, applying procedures with good judgment. Read switching orders from designated personnel. Supervise and coordinate train crew activities. Receive instructions from Managers or Customers regarding switching operations. Notify engineers of switching orders using radio, signals, or verbal communication. Communicate with crew or yard workers via radio for switching information. Coordinate with train dispatchers regarding stops, delays, or train movements. Operate switches and coupling mechanisms to move cars. Assist with switching operations as needed. Apply and release handbrakes manually. Maintain records of switched cars, including origin, destination, and cargo details. Coordinate switching activities from locomotive cab, control tower, or caboose. Connect air hoses and set warning signals during emergency stops. Observe signals from the locomotive cab. Perform minor repairs on equipment and report major repairs needed. Communicate with Dispatchers regarding switching operations. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must pass all required testing and certifications. SKILLS and ABILITIES High school diploma or GED, or 3-6 months related experience, or equivalent education and experience. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instructions, and manuals; write reports; communicate effectively. Ability to understand and follow instructions, and solve problems involving concrete variables.
